Tyler County is the birthplace to the first governor, Authur I. Boreman and the only governor in West Virginia that served as the youngest as well as serving as the oldest in office, Cecil Underwood.
The first county high school in the state was Tyler County High School, and is now host to the Tyler County Museum. The musuem houses wonderful artifacts from Civil War medical instruments to the war room; a collection of many different uniforms from WWI and WWII. The museum is open during the summer months. During the turn of the 20th century, the town of Sistersville was an Oil Boom town. There were many self made millionaires and mansions that still stand.
